General Motors Customer Service

I have my own little story about customer service at one of the world's biggest auto manufactuers (they might be the world's largest actually). I 2001 I purchased a Chevrolet Tahoe from Atlantic Chevrolet in New York. To make a long story short, they sold me the wrong Tahoe. When I went to pick the car up, late in the afternoon, they told me they had to prep the car. When it came time to load it up and drive away, I realized that the truck they had been prepping was the wrong one. We ended up figuring things out, but I was unable to return home that night because I had missed the last ferry out to the island. They were not willing to put me up in a hotel and I wasn't going to make a stink about it because it had been a long day. About a month later, I receive a customer service survey from General Motors. I figured I would let General Motors know about my personal experience at Altantic Chevrolet and let them decide on what action, if any, they should take. I told them that I would be happy to discuss the "customer service nightmare" that I had endured at Atlantic and listed my contact information. I never heard one thing back from General Motors. A simple phone call or quick letter to let me know they had received my information and that they would be taking the appropriate action with their dealer would have left me with a good taste in my mouth. Instead, GM decided to do nothing, at least that is how it seemed to me after I did not hear one thing from them after that.

The best part is that Atlantic Chevrolet sends me a Christmas card every year telling me that I should buy my next Chevy/GMC from them. Sure guys.

He adds that as more and more services move onto IP, the desire for service level agreements and interdepartmental chargeback means that network management must differentiate between the needs of different customers - in short, it has to get a lot more granular.
