Motorola recently dipped one toe into the growing mobile music market with its iTunes-enabled ROKR cell phone. Now the electronics giant is jumping head-first into deep waters with a more intriguing and unique service called iRadio, to be accessible in the next few months on a line of Motorola mobile phones marketed by some of the leading service providers.

For example, Comcast intends to use its emerging national backbone to deliver such new services as streaming VOD and VoIP to any IP location. The MSO also plans to use the backbone to bring other new multimedia services to customers by leveraging IP multicasting capabilities. This could prove increasingly important as Comcast moves to make its video and communications services available to subscribers on the go through its recently announced mobile partnership with Sprint Nextel.
