Victor residents call for cell phone service - Colorado Springs Gazette

The short stretch of Teller County Road 81 just outside the city limits is probably the most popular spot in Victor. Every day, cars pull along the shoulder in search of something they can’t find in town: a cellular telephone signal. “Go by there on any given day, and I’ll bet there’s half a dozen people making phone calls,” said Thomas Bugbee, who frequented the hill this year as he and his wife, Kathleen, bought a house and set up a business selling wool. Frustrated with life in a perpetual dead spot and unwilling to hunker down on a gravel shoulder anymore, residents in this town of 450 are banding together, collecting signatures and clamoring for a cell phone provider to come to town. Without technology, they ask, how can they keep up? “People want all the modern conveniences. If we’re going to get more businesses here, we have to be able to provide these things other towns have,” said Karen Morrison, who’s leading the charge.
